What Rooky has to say

To All My Friends Who Made My Birthday So Special:
Here are the pics from my surprise birthday party, taken by Anna Nyarady,Terry Hartshorne and Renee Galwin. I had hoped to include the ones from the first warm-up party of July 7th that Karen and Mike Hunter hosted for a small group of my friends, most of who were going to be away in August. But both the camera and the owner have gone fishing, so I will send those pictures separately.

I was really shocked by the surprise evening on August 7th and I really cannot believe that Zena managed, through her determination and enthusiasm, and with a lot of help from our friends, to put on such a wonderful party.

Michele thank you for keeping the surprise by pretending to have a party the next day at Jericho Tennis Club. That really fooled me as you know. I subsequently cancelled both my pedicure and hair appointments for the next day (the day of the so-called planned party) and enjoyed the sun instead between a lunch and the evening at Anna’s.

It’s not easy to get 60 people together for a surprise, especially as Zena neither had a venue nor did she know how to organize the food for so many. Plus, she has so many jobettes to pay her food and rent! What a girl.

However, thanks to wonderful friends like Al Hurwitz (who offered his beautiful party home), Gail Furlong who planned the party with Zena and organized all that food with Al, Renee, Zubin and Zena’s help, and Kathryn Hurwitz and Lynn Carter for the fabulous fruit platters and all of you who so generously brought so much wine and champagne (Zena said she was so relieved when Christine Howarth-Cheung walked in with 6 bottles of Verve Cliequot) and I know from all the details I heard subsequently that a lot of you were extremely generous with the wines and bubbles. Thank you for that.

Thank you also to so many of you for all the lovely lunches and dinners both before and after. I still have some to look forward to when I return in October. And to those of you who came to the Hunters’ party, thank you also for the donations to YWCA’s Simla House.

Wasn’t Gail’s cake just so delicious and beautiful?

Had I been asked to organize my own party this would have been it.

How wonderful for my kids to have such role models for friendship in their lives. I am still enjoying the emotional wealth from such a very lovely and loving evening.

I forgot to mention 2 important events when I was speaking to you all: Carol Kerfoot and David Hunt had just got married – CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU. Also, Lynn and Jim Carter’s son David was in the Olympic field hockey team and so Lynn and Jim went to Beijing 3 days later. CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID. Apparently there were 4 Olympians from the Arbutus Club!

Memories are the diaries that we all carry about with us is the saying by Oscar Wilde that came to my mind that evening (from a Mom calendar that Zena gave me last X’mas). I hope that even if I develop Alzheimer’s I will always remember this evening. And I think it’s wonderful that my friends continue to meet and know each other - Vicki Scudamore had a lovely evening at her house last week to which she invited some of my friends who I know will continue to get to know each other better.

What else can I say except that what would our lives be without each other?

Wishing for all of us …………. All of the warmest and bes t….. Of all that is good …….

Party for special friends

Dear SJCS Members

Here are some photographs found in my global photo collection.
(Lost & Found).

Party for Mervyn & Pervin Nunes prior to the first SJCS Zanzibar Reunion held in Toronto 2005 whilst the Nunes' were on the global travels.

Marhook (Rooky) held a party at her home entertaining some good friends (see if you can ID them), with special guests of honour, Mervyn & Pervin.

As I was given to understand, it was one great party and all the lovely folks with their big smiles says it all. Knowing Rooky's style - nothing but the best.

I just can imagine what fun it was.

You're invited to view my online photos.

Best regards Benny
